High Altitude Learning, LLC

Welcome classroom and building leaders implementing World School frameworks!

First, you deserve a mini standing ovation for leading the pursuit of schoolwide, inquiry-driven learning communities that engage students personally and collaboratively. Research backs your decision as do the positive trends you observe in meaningful student engagement and school culture. It takes courage to tackle comprehensive school reform, and you’re doing it!

It is not uncommon for schools to experience implementation fatigue, even with the clearest vision and best laid plans. Change is hard, and many leaders find it difficult to maintain the momentum required to develop sustained cultures of inquiry within the complexities of today’s schools.

I created High Altitude Learning with your school in mind. My 25+ years in IB MYP leadership made clear to me that teachers need customized and practical support to bridge the “knowing-doing gap” as they develop new mindsets and professional practices. I work with schools, departments, and small teams to address a range of program challenges such as: teacher/coordinator mentoring, detailed unit development, facilitation of policy-creation, integration of personalized learning projects, and whole-school trainings that involve teachers as collaborators, creators, and deep thinkers. Your school is worth the steady investment of persistent growth by design.

I work to earn your trust by respecting the culture of your school and delivering “nutritious and delicious” professional development that integrates educational theory with examples of practice to build confidence in implementation. My commitment to providing responsive expertise beyond contracted hours helps lighten the load for over-worked staff.

Testimonials …

I have been so impressed by your calm leadership this last year, wishing I had your grace and your just perfect words of encouragement. I truly have been relieved at times in our quarterly meet-ings to be under your care and leadership.”

“What an amazing role model for our teaching AND establishing our learning
environments. Thanks for being an amazing listener and helping us make sense of
the multiple layers and dimensions of this program.”

“Carolyn was absolutely amazing. Her compassion and knowledge is something I strive for in my classroom… I find myself thinking, ‘what would Carolyn do?’ or ‘what question would Carolyn ask?’ to get me to look at my current practice from another viewpoint and improve in a way that aligns with IB’s practices.”
